**Why does this checker exist?**
To take a BIC (the code often called a SWIFT code) apart by Swift's published policy, and to test the shape of a BIC or IBAN without sending it anywhere. Around the checker are guides to US bank codes, routing numbers and the checks worth making before you wire money abroad.

**Who is behind it?**
swiftcodelookup.com is looked after by its operator, who answers at contact@swiftcodelookup.com. No name is published. The BIC and IBAN tests follow the published structure rules and the IBAN check-digit method, and they passed against the registry's official example IBANs before launch.

**Is this Swift, or a bank?**
Neither. It is an independent information site with no official role, and it has no link with Swift, any bank, payment firm or regulator mentioned here.

**Who owns the names used here?**
SWIFT is a mark of its holder, as is each bank name mentioned; they appear only so you know who is meant. The guides and checker logic are original to swiftcodelookup.com, except where a page credits another source.

**Does the site make money?**
Not today. It carries no ads, no paid placements and no affiliate links to transfer services. This answer will be updated if that changes.

A code that looks out of date, a rule that seems wrong, a missing explanation, or a request to remove something. It cannot trace a payment, call back a wire, or confirm that someone's account exists.
